We laughed so hard but it was truly embarrassing

Yesterday Hwa and I went out on the fully charged electric bike to do some errands.  Like a cabbie doing the knowledge, armed with my rather pathetic map ( impossible to buy a decent one here it seems) we found areas we had never seen before, and managed to get everything done.   The last stop was Big C the rather fabulous mall we have become addicted to, but we had never been on the bike before.   The car park  was underground and full of motorbikes, we managed to park ( not easy ) , get the ticket etc and then went off to food shop.

I had invited my friend Kerstin (who was on the Celta course), round for dinner on Friday night so I only needed to shop for then, but you know what’s it like …. a store full of food and things and the shopping was a little heavier than I thought it would be.   We loaded up, road to the exit paid the 1,000VND and I decided to push the bike to the limits and ride up the exit ramp.

Half way to the top I realised there was no way we were going to make it… by then it was too late.   The bike started rolling backward, my feet got tangled in the pedals and I lost balance.  Hwa and I ended up underneath the bike at the bottom of the ramp.

Fortunately it wasn’t serious and it was as gentle a fall off a bike as could be expected.  Hwa started to laugh as a bunch of Vietnamese people ran to help us get up and round up our food shopping, so I knew she was ok.  I started to laugh too and really tried to ignore the twenty or so people on motorbikes behind us waiting to exit the car park, who had witnessed the whole thing.

Must have been a little shook up though as I managed to clip the bicycle wheel of an 80 year old man on the way home.  Totally his fault, the lights had turned green when he decided to just cycle in front of a bunch of us!
